Confirmation Program for Teens
Before You Register
Students entering the Confirmation Program must complete one full year of High School Faith Formation before beginning their second year of Confirmation Preparation.
This requirement may be met by completing one of the following:
✓ One full prior year of Catholic Theology at a Catholic high school
OR
✓ One full prior year of High School Faith Formation at St. Theresa Catholic Church with at least 80% attendance (class meets weekly on Sundays 3:00pm-4:45 PM)
If your teen has not yet completed this requirement, please register them for High School Faith Formation before enrolling in the Confirmation for Teens Program.

Confirmation Program for Teens Overview
"Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit." — Rite of Confirmation
The Confirmation Program is a two-year journey of faith designed to help teens grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ, deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith, and prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. During the first year, students continue their faith formation through weekly Sunday classes. During the second year, they continue attending Sunday classes while also participating in bi-weekly Wednesday Confirmation sessions and completing the additional requirements for the Sacrament of Confirmation
The program includes:
- Weekly Sunday High School Faith Formation held at the Community Center, where students continue their faith formation throughout the catechetical year.
- Mandatory Parent Orientation at the beginning of the year to review program expectations, requirements, and important dates.
- Second-Year Confirmation Sessions, held every other Wednesday, for students preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
- Opportunities for spiritual growth through retreats, service, prayer, participation in the Mass, and preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Sunday High School Faith Formation at the Community Center

- English Session • 3:00 PM
- Spanish Session • 5:00 PM
- Weekly Classes Begin Sunday, September 20, 2026 3:00–4:45 PM
- Attendance Minimum 80%
Wednesday Confirmation Classes (Second-Year Students Only)
- Begins October 21, 2026
- Every Other Wednesday 6:30–8:00 PM
- Attendance 100% Required
- No Make-up Classes
- Last Class April 14, 2027
Confirmation Requirements
Students preparing for Confirmation must complete:
✔ Weekly Sunday Faith Formation
✔ Wednesday Confirmation Classes
✔ Submit a Catholic Baptism Certificate
✔ Attend Sunday Mass
✔ Attend 2 Retreats (One Mandatory & One Elective)
✔ Complete 10 Service Hours
✔ Choose a Confirmation Sponsor
✔ Select a Confirmation Saint and complete the Saint Essay
✔ Youth Minister Interview
✔ Priest Interview
✔ Attend Confirmation Practice

Sunday High School Faith Formation
- Weekly Attendance expectations (80%).
Wednesday Confirmation Sessions
- Attendance expectations (100%).
Baptism Certificate
A copy of the candidate's Catholic Baptism Certificate is required for all students preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please submit a copy to the High School Faith Formation staff as soon as possible after registering. If your teen was baptized at St. Theresa Catholic Church, you may authorize the Faith Formation Office to request a copy of the baptismal record from our parish archives on your behalf. Written parent or legal guardian authorization is required before we can retrieve the record. Please contact highschool@sugarlandcatholic.com for more details.
Retreat Requirements
As part of the Confirmation Program, each candidate is required to attend two retreats:
- Mandatory Confirmation Retreat
- Mandatory 2026-2027 Confirmation Retreat: November 20-22, 2026
- Elective Retreat Options selected from the approved retreat opportunities offered during the catechetical year. Elective retreat options may include:
- June 26-28, 2026 Steubenville Conference (Registration Closed)
- July 31-Aug 2, 2026 AYC Houston Youth Conference
- 2026-2027 Winter Retreat - January 8-10, 2027
- 2026-2027 Spring Retreat - March 12-14, 2027
Community Service Requirements
- Complete 10 hours of community service through St. Theresa Catholic Church
- Service hours must be completed through or approved by St. Theresa
- Independent or unapproved activities will not be counted
- Service Hours Log available on the Parent Resources page.
- Opportunities will be provided throughout the year, including:
- Catholic Kids Camp 2026 (volunteer 15+hrs )
- Miraculous Medal Making (sign-ups shared via email)
Confirmation Sponsor Requirement
- Select a Sponsor
- Sponsors should be a Catholic role model in the student's life
- Conformation Sponsor form is available on the Parent Resources page.
- Additional details will be provided during Confirmation class.
Confirmation Saint Requirements
- Select a Saint and write an essay about Confirmation Saint
- Students will learn about the lives of saints during the year and choose one as their patron.
- Additional details will be provided during Confirmation class.
Interviews
During each interview, candidates will be asked to demonstrate their understanding of the Catholic faith and the material covered throughout the Confirmation program. Both interviews must be successfully completed before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
- Youth Minister Interview
- Conducted by the High School Youth Ministers (Gabe and Rocio)
- Date: TBA
- Candidates must successfully complete the Youth Minister Interview before advancing to the Priest Interview.
- Priest Interview
- Conducted by Fr. David
- Scheduled after the candidate has successfully completed the Youth Minister Interview.
- Candidates must successfully demonstrate their readiness to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Spiritual Preparation
Preparing for Confirmation is not only about completing program requirements—it is also about preparing your heart to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Candidates are expected to:
- Attend the mandatory Confirmation Practice (Date: Saturday TBA, 9:30 a.m., Church; candidate and sponsor only)
- Be in the State of Grace when receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
- Continue participating in Sunday Mass and personal prayer as they prepare for the sacrament.
Candidates are expected to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving Confirmation. Frequent Confession throughout the year, especially during the week leading up to Confirmation, is strongly encouraged.
