Adult Baptism / Becoming Catholic

Is God calling you to something more?

Come and explore the Catholic Church—we’re here to accompany you every step of the way.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)

Formerly known as RCIA

Are you—or someone you know—interested in becoming Catholic? Whether you are:

  • Unbaptized,
  • Baptized in another Christian tradition, or
  • A baptized Catholic who has not received First Communion or Confirmation,

We’re here to walk with you on this journey of faith.

At St. Theresa Catholic Church in Sugar Land, our Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) offers a welcoming process for adults, older teens, and children who are seeking full communion with the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation:
Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.

OCIA for Adults and Older Teens (Ages 17+)

If you are 17 years of age or older and:

  • have never been baptized, or
  • were baptized in another Christian tradition and now wish to become Catholic, or
  • were baptized Catholic but never received your First Holy Communion or Confirmation

…the OCIA is the next step.

What to Expect

  • Weekly formation sessions led by trained catechists and parish mentors
  • Prayer, Scripture reflection, and opportunities for spiritual growth
  • Participation in the liturgical life of the parish
  • Special rites and milestones throughout the year
  • Reception of the Sacraments at the Easter Vigil (for those who are ready)

You may begin the process at any time of the year. We also host informal Zoom gatherings, with no pressure or obligation — just an open invitation to explore.
